How to build a practical everyday underwear drawer
Most people own more underwear than they wear regularly and fewer pieces they actually like than they think. The basics drawer is one of those things that is easy to let accumulate without ever being quite right. Here is a straightforward way to think about it.
Start with a short colour palette
Three colours cover most situations: a neutral that works under white (oatmeal or chalk), a mid-tone that works under darker clothes (slate or grey), and a dark that works under black or navy (black). Beyond those three, additional colours are personal preference rather than practical necessity.
Keeping the palette short means pieces mix and match without thinking about it, and you can buy multiples of the same style in different colours without ending up with a drawer full of things that do not coordinate.
How many pieces do you actually need
A practical number for most people is seven to ten briefs and three to four bras. That covers a full week with a small buffer for laundry timing. More than that pieces start sitting unworn long enough that the elastic ages before the fabric wears out.
If you do laundry twice a week, five briefs and two bras is enough. The calculation is simple: how many days between washes, plus one or two for overlap.
Choosing between styles
The choice between a standard brief and a high-waist cut comes down to what you wear on top. High-waist styles work better under high-waisted trousers and skirts because the waistband sits at the same level as the trouser waistband, so there is no gap. Standard briefs work better under lower-rise cuts.
For bras, the main decision is between a soft-cup bra with more structure and a bralette with less. The Everyday Soft-Cup Bra is the right choice for longer days or when you want more support. The Modal Lounge Bralette is better for home days or lighter layers. Most customers end up with one or two of each.
